MILAN – The final whistle was greeted with jubilant scenes inside the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza as Inter’s passage to the Europa League round of 16 was confirmed. Nerazzurri boss Roberto Mancini spoke to the press minutes after the game: "We did very well tonight and deserved to win. We’re growing but we’re not perfect yet – we’re still making errors but we’re definitely on the right track."
Asked about Guarin’s wondergoal, Mancini said: "He’s always looking to do something like that. Sometimes he tries to force it too much, but he’s naturally gifted at striking the ball. He’s showing his true talent."
Mancini then returned to this evening’s match: "We need to improve across the board. We need to take fewer risks in defence, the defenders must be protected by the midfielders and we mustn’t lose the ball as much as we do in midfield.
"Celtic were better without the ball than in the first leg. When they attacked and we won the ball back, we weren’t quick enough in getting the ball up to our forward players," explained Mancini
There was also time for a word on the performance of Italian sides in general in this season’s Europa League: "We need points for the coefficient and I’m pleased to help out in that respect. We and the other Italian teams are trying to do well in the Europa League. It’s important for us all."
