MILAN – Javier Zanetti, Nerazzurri legend. And what better way to pay tribute to a legend than to bring a 20-year love story to the silver screen?
Zanetti Story does just that. Directed by Carlo A. Sigon and Simone Scafidi and created by FC Internazionale and Nexo Digital in collaboration with Pirelli, the biopic will be broadcast live into cinemas by satellite on Friday 27 February at 20:30 CET and then repeated at 22:45 CET.
Commenting on the film – his film – Zanetti once again sums up what he has come to represent for so many: integrity, authenticity, uniqueness.
"I’d never have imagined that somebody would end up making a film of my life. I want to thank everybody who’s taken part in this wonderful project," he declared.
The film tells Zanetti’s story with help from some illustrious faces. Team-mates, coaches, friends…
"The thing that really struck a chord with me was all the testimonies. They all come from such different worlds – from sport, from show business and so on. When Cordoba calls me ‘crazy’, he’s right. Want to know why? Because I think I’m a positive person with a smile on my face. I’ve always got a joke up my sleeve and Ivan knows it. Plus, I’m a singer! But my wife says that in the film, right?" smiled Zanetti.
Carlo A. Sigon and Simone Scafidi were rigorous in their research for the documentary aspect of the film, ensuring all elements of the narrative were included.
"They put so much effort into this film. They gathered all the testimonies, they went to Argentina – to my neighbourhood, to see where I grew up. They took an incredible level of interest in everything and I’d like to thank them again for that. The slow-motion scene is one of my favourites. Just a few seconds shows you the attention to detail the directors put in. It proves that this film has been created with care, dedication and passion."
Passion. Something that all Inter fans – all football fans – had the joy of witnessing every time Zanetti pulled on the black and blue jersey. So what four moments does the Nerazzurri’s eternal No. 4 consider his most memorable? "My debut for the club, the goal against Roma, the arrival back from Madrid at six in the morning with the Champions League trophy in my arms and my last match, against Lazio."
