VECCHI: "LADS' DESIRE WON IT FOR US"

Primavera coach reflects on his side's Viareggio Cup semi-final success over Roma

VIAREGGIO - The Nerazzurri Primavera racked up a sixth straight win in the Viareggio Tournament today as they advanced to the final by despatching Roma with an emphatic 4-0 victory.

It required a gritty display from Stefano Vecchi's young gun to get the better of their Giallorossi counterparts in atrocious playing conditions.

"The pitch was utterly unplayable in the first half. We tried to play football but it really was an impossible task," the coach told Inter Channel after the game.

"We took the lead with a little bit of luck then in the second half it dried out a little and we did well to make the most of the opportunities that came our way. We afforded the very opposition very little indeed."

What was the key to victory? "The lads' desire reach the final. We were good and we were lucky. We did have things go our way, first with Steffè's goal then with Appiah coming on because he was decisive in winning penalties and the sendings-off."

There's little time to enjoy today's triumph because Monday's final is already just around the corner.

"We'll have to pull out all the stops and hopefully we'll be able to play as well as we have been so far," Vecchi said. "We'll try to ride on this enthusiasm and get our energy back as quickly as possible."
