VECCHI: "IMPORTANT TO GET MAXIMUM POINTS"

Inter Primavera coach Stefano Vecchi spoke to the press after his side rounded off the Viareggio Cup group stages with a 2-0 win over Pro Duta

SERAVEZZA – Three wins out of three. Having already dispatched Genk and Parma, Stefano Vecchi’s Nerazzurri Primavera beat Indonesian outfit Pro Duta to maintain their 100% record in Group 5 of the Viareggio Cup and make a statement of intent for the upcoming round of 16.

The Inter coach is certainly not resting on his laurels, however, and is determined to keep his side’s concentration up for the knock-out stages of the competition: "It was a tougher match than we were expecting as we didn’t play to the best of our abilities. But after two great performances, that can happen. To tell you the truth, I was expecting more from my team, even if we were already qualified as group winners.

"Having said that, it was important for us to win all three matches. We’ve now got two days’ rest and we’ll need to make the most of that to be completely prepared for next week," explained Vecchi.

"Given that we’d qualified with a game to spare, we were able to give an opportunity to those that have had less game time so far. In a tournament such as this, any opportunity to show what you can do can be useful," continued the Nerazzurri coach.

Tuesday’s round-of-16 match sees the Primavera take on the Serie D XI, who qualified for the knock-out stages after coming second in Group 8 behind Torino: "We’ll have to be on our game in every match. There are a lot of good teams in the last 16, with Palermo and Bruges as well as Pescara, Cesena, Atalanta, Fiorentina and Verona. It’s all or nothing from here on in, so anything can happen."
