MILAN - San Siro gave Podolski a warm welcome on his home debut as more than 37,000 turned out to cheer the Nerazzurri on against Genoa.
Icardi struck his 30th goal in Serie A, while Palacio found the net for the second straight home game. Guarin was in inspired form, while the defence looked solid.
Guarin got Inter off to a flying start by feeding Icardi on the edge of the box. The move was similar to the one that led to the equaliser against Juventus but Perin prevented the Nerazzurri from taking the lead. Genoa responded with what would prove to be their only dangerous chance of the half. Antonelli slid in the middle of the box but Handanovic got down sharply to deny him.
Inter opened scoring on 12 minutes, as Medel dinked it over the top for Icardi. The Argentine struck an acrobatic volley which Perin pushed clear. Palacio though was on hand to tuck the ball home and make it 1-0. The whole team came together to celebrate El Trenza's second straight home goal.
Inter were on top and went in search of a second. Palacio tried his luck 10 minutes shy of the interval, with Perin once again there to deny him. Guarin drove forward a minute later, wrong-footing De Maio and putting the ball into the middle. The Rossoblu got the ball to safety. The Nerazzurri did double their lead on 39 minutes however, Icardi rising highest to power home from Hernanes' corner. It was the Argentine's 10th league goal of the season, his 30th in Serie A.
Genoa came out fighting in the second period, Antonelli striking on the volley after Medel half-cleared: Handanovic made a comfortable save. The visitors grew in confidence and created two good opportunities on 56 and 62 minutes. First Bertolacci hit a shot from inside the box, then Lestienne struck the crossbar. Inter tried to manage the lead by slowing the tempo down.
When the visitors finally did halve the deficit, through Izzo following a goalmouth scramble, the Nerazzurri did well to kill the game off almost immediately. Vidic reacted well to head in after Icardi cushioned the ball to him from a corner. It ended Inter 3-1 Genoa amid a great wave of enthusiasm.
