VERONA – Roberto Mancini’s mood was a mixture of satisfaction and determination as he commented on what was an excellent performance by his Inter side tonight: "It’s an important victory and it means that our confidence continues to grow.
"Despite the difficulties in the match, we ran out victorious and kept a clean sheet to boot. I’m satisfied. Right now, the 4-3-1-2 formation is a system that can come in useful. I believe that with two wingers the team is a lot more dangerous and balanced," explained the Inter boss.
Mancini was then asked whether his side’s next match – against Lazio – will be a test of the Nerazzurri’s maturity: "I don’t know, but it would be great to win that one too, especially in terms of our morale.
"Chievo were very disciplined tonight and there wasn’t much space at all. Icardi is a young guy and has bags of quality. We’ll work hard together and things will improve. Right now, I think this is the best system for us.
"Guarin is an experienced player, whilst Kovacic has the potential to become a great midfielder. He’s still young and must learn to defend, but he really can become a complete midfield player.
"We want to move forward and play at a high level. Slowly but surely, we’re improving at the back. The defence did extremely well today. Medel, for instance, runs his socks off and is a very important player for us," concluded Mancini.
