Inter Campus’s official presentation to the United Nations in 2012 saw football recognised as an effective tool for promoting development and peace. Now, two years down the line, Inter Campus returns to the UN.
The Italian and Jamaican Permanent Representations to the United Nations have organised an event aimed at exploring the ways in which sport can act as a vehicle for improving the lives of children living in areas afflicted by conflict, violence and extreme poverty.
The conference will also discuss how sport can help to form and reinforce a child’s identity, thus furthering personal development.
Together with the UN Secretary General’s Special Representatives on Violence against Children and Sport for Peace and Development, Massimo Moratti and Javier Zanetti will offer testimonies and evaluate some of the key issues relating to children, sport and development.
Ensuring children are able to enjoy sport is one of the UN’s main objectives, given that sport can provide efficient protection from violence towards children.
The event will take place at the United Nations Trusteeship Council Chamber in New York on Monday 15 December 2014 at 15:00 local time (20:00 CET).
