ROME – Andrea Ranocchia’s joy at scoring his first goal of the season was understandable absent at the final whistle, with the disappointment of defeat etched on the Inter captain’s face: "I’d prefer never to score and win football matches instead," he declared.
"It’s disappointing because we did some things well. We dug deep to level the scores twice and that wasn’t easy at all. However, we made mistakes – myself included – and unfortunately ended up losing the match. We’ve changed systems and need to work harder on it. The coach has only just come in and we need time to adapt to the changes," explained Ranocchia.
Asked whether it was a different flavour of defeat to some of the team’s earlier losses, Ranocchia replied: "Yes, because we caused Roma problems at times. They’re a great team, so we need to take the positives and build on them. Unfortunately, we made some errors which we shouldn’t have. We need to work on them to improve.
"We’ve only been working with Mancini for two weeks, and we’ve played so much in that time that we’ve not been able to train for a prolonged spell. Can we get third place? Look, we’re someway off it now, but there are many matches still to play and we’ve got plenty of time to recover," concluded Ranocchia.
