MILAN – Inter’s Colombian midfielder Fredy Guarin gave his take on the return of Roberto Mancini and – of course – the big derby on Sunday night as he spoke to SportMediaset’s Marco Barzaghi.
Barzaghi started by asking the Nerazzurri man to describe his reaction to Mancini’s recent praise: "First of all, I must thank him and admit that I really admire him as a coach. The praise he gave me has given me a real boost, and while I’ve always welcomed the responsibility of giving my all, his words have upped my motivation levels even further.
"For a player, feeling that you have the coach’s faith is incredibly important. We’ve got a big opportunity in front of us – it’s a new challenge with a top manager. Is the atmosphere different? The coaching staff have brought a new vibe into the camp. They’re full of joy, passion and enthusiasm. And in football, all those things are essential," explained Guarin.
The final word was reserved for Sunday night’s Derby della Madonnina: "It’s so important because of everything it represents. Because of all the history, the tradition… First and foremost, however, it’s important because of the three points up for grabs."
