MAZZARRI: "A TOUGH MATCH BUT WE CAN IMPROVE"

Walter Mazzarri spoke after his Inter side drew 1-1 at Palermo

PALERMO – “We made life hard for ourselves at the start of the match and Palermo were able to relax and play their game. Having said that, we started the second half well and the only thing missing was a goal – even though Vidic's header should’ve stood,” said Mazzarri after the match.

“We tried everything to get the win but we just couldn’t manage it, despite the fact that there were chances for both sides. We were missing that last pass, but we really put the effort in during the second half. Unfortunately, we couldn’t get the goal we needed,” the Nerazzurri coach added.

Asked about the early goal his side conceded, Mazzarri maintained: “It was an accident, like when the ball goes through the goalkeeper’s legs or something like that. An accident, nothing more.”

The Inter manager was keen to look forward to the coming matches: “There’s still work to be done both mentally and in terms of our performances on the pitch. We are Inter – we know what standards are expected of us. We’re growing as a team. We accept the draw and move forward. It was a tough match and we can certainly do better.”

There was a special word for the Nerazzurri’s goal-scorer, Mateo Kovacic. “He’s matured as a player; he’s found his shooting boots and is really growing for us,” concluded Mazzarri.
