MILAN – Yesterday it was confirmed that the 2016 Champions League final would be played at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza. Inter vice president Javier Zanetti spoke by telephone to Inter Channel on the subject: "It’s something to be very proud about, an honour for the entire city of Milan and both of its teams. We’ll all work together to host such a prestigious event, and it will be done in an exemplary manner. As a club, we’ll do everything to honour such a prestigious event, as will the city. This is something very important for Milan."
Could the final in two years be an extra incentive for the Nerazzurri? "It will certainly serve as motivation for our lads. It’s a very young team that wants to be competing at the highest level again and take the club to the top, along with the rest of us working here."
Furthermore, Zanetti is the last captain to have raised the trophy for an Italian club: "It’s one of my most intense memories wearing the Nerazzurri shirt. Having the privilege of wearing the captain’s armband and being able to raise the trophy after so many years along with our fans will no doubt always be an unforgettable memory. Especially for our fans that watched us in Madrid and those that were here to celebrate the achievement with us in Milan."
