WORLD CUP: COLOMBIA ADVANCE WHILE JAPAN ARE ELIMINATED

Guarin’s national team defeats Nagatomo's in the final Group C match to go through on maximum points and set up a last-16 date with Uruguay

MILAN – Colombia made it three wins out of three in their final Group C contest as Japan were eliminated in a match-up that saw Nerazzurri duo Guarin and Nagatomo face off on opposing sides. The South American side will now meet Uruguay on Saturday 28 June in the round of 16. 

After Cuadrado opened the scoring from the penalty spot, Okazaki drew Japan level with an impressive header. Then, following half-time, Martinez notched a brace before Rodriguez struck for Colombia’s fourth.

Both Nagatomo and Guarin (who picked up a booking) played the full 90 minutes.
