NERAZZURRI ISSUE RALLYING CRY: "READY FOR ROMA"

Cerrone: "Pleased with the lads today, they wanted to go through. We must immediately refocus on the next game"

MILAN – After this afternoon's playoff win over Empoli, Salvatore Cerrone, Andrea Palazzi and Alessandro Capello took questions from journalists at the Centro Sportivo Giacinto Facchetti.

Andrea Palazzi, among the top performers today, said: "We really needed this win after going on a run that wasn't all that great. We got ourselves back on track by working our socks off – every last one of us did our jobs out there. We deserved to win this one and now we'll look ahead to Saturday.

"We started off well then after the first goal it was almost as if we switched off. The gaffer got us fired up again during the break, telling us to go back out there like warriors to try and take home the win.

"We'll have to put in another hard-working performance against Roma, and make the most of our counter-attacks like we did today."

Alessandro Capello, who struck a brace against Empoli, added: "We'll head down to Rome ready to play against a good side on a difficult ground. We'll see what we can do.

"I got a bit lucky with my two goals: the ball just came to me and I managed to stick it away. It feels great to score in such an important game. My mistake from Camara's pass? I wanted to go for the opposite post, I didn't hit it well and it went over, but fortunately I finished the other two. I wanted to get a goal, but I didn't feel any pressure.

"How do I find playing with Bonazzoli? I enjoy it. He wants us to stick close to him to make the most of the balls coming in from the wide areas, and to help each other all the time. Of course it's easier when you have people like Polo and Camara on the wings... In any case whether it's me who scores or someone else, the main thing is that we win.
AC Milan lost? I heard but it doesn't make any difference to us."

Finally, Primavera coach Salvatore Cerrone gave his view of the game: "We're past the first hurdle and we cleared it quite well. After the first goal we dropped too deep and almost conceded. Ivusic did superbly to keep us in it, and considering they hit the bar too...

"In the second half I told the lads to get at the opposition, and if we put them under pressure they would struggle. I think we did well, showing good moves and good football. I'm pleased because the boys did what they were supposed to. They put grit, determination and humility into it and we even kept a clean sheet, something we hadn't managed for a while. These things give us reason for optimism.

"Unfortunately we have to forget about this game immediately and concentrate on Roma starting from tomorrow. It was a final for us today and it will be another final on Saturday. The lads want to go to the Final Eight. I'd like to give them another pat on the back for their excellent second half. We played a great game."
