GENOA - The Nerazzurri got back to winning ways at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris in Genoa. Inter put four goals past Sampdoria, with Icardi (a brace), Samuel and Palacio finding the net. Samir Handanovic was once again in outstanding form between the posts.
For this clash at the Marassi, Mazzarri chose a three-man defensive line of Ranocchia, Samuel and Rolando in front of Handanovic in goal. The five-man midfield consisted of D'Ambrosio, Hernanes, Cambiasso, Kovacic and Nagatomo, with Palacio and Icardi forming the attacking pair.
Inter needed 13 minutes to take the lead when Icardi met Palacio’s cross with a right-footer, much to the dismay of the home crowd. Temperatures on the pitch were rising and the Blucerchiati found themselves playing with 10 men after Eder was shown his second yellow card on 20 minutes for attempting to get a bit too physical with Handanovic when the play was stopped.
Two minutes past the half-hour mark the Nerazzurri keeper pulled off a stunning save from a Maxi Lopez shot, and only a minute later he performed another miracle, this time on Sansone’s effort. In the 45th minute the Slovenian net minder was once again called into action to keep out Soriano’s volley. In fact, it was thanks to Samir that the Nerazzurri were able to go into half-time with the lead.
Fifteen minutes after the restart Da Costa denied Palacio, although moments later Inter doubled their lead when Samuel headed in a corner from Hernanes. In the 63rd minute Icardi completed his brace, putting away a ball from Palacio. Then Palacio went from provider to scorer when he buried an assist from Alvarez with his right (his 15th goal of the season). After two minutes of injury time the match ended: Sampdoria 0-4 Inter.
