MILAN - FC Internazionale will host VAS at the Stadio Meazza's Executive Suite during the game between Inter and Atalanta to support the first PAD&Vascular European Days (19 and 20 March 2014). VAS is a non-profit association which conducts research into the prevention of vascular diseases.
One of the main aims of the initiative is to teach people the 'FeetTest' (self-palpation of the foot arteries) as an aid to self-diagnosis, which must then be confirmed by a GP. If widely publicised, this method can become an excellent tool to ensure a rapid diagnosis in vast sections of the population and prevent the disease from reaching its advanced stages, saving lives and reducing social costs.
A greater awareness of Peripheral Arterial Disease is even more important given the prospect of an increase in the elderly population, since it is a condition that tends to develop with age.
The European project is coordinated by VAS Vascular Independent Research and Education European Organisation (a European scientific non-profit association which brings together a network of centres, researchers, clinics and institutions), set up over 20 years ago and based at the Research Centre on Vascular Diseases at the Angiology Unit at the University of Milan.
