CAMPAGNARO: "COMPETITION IN THE SQUAD IS CRUCIAL FOR OUR GROWTH"

The Inter defender to Mediaset: "None of us feels he has a right to a starting spot, and that helps us to give our all"

APPIANO GENTILEFrom Fiorentina to Cagliari, president Thohir, his team-mates and the national team. In an exclusive interview with Mediaset, Hugo Campagnaro covered all of these subjects, starting with the latest league win: "A victory was crucial for the entire team’s morale. We earned a result on a very difficult pitch in Florence. It would be great to build on these last two wins, most of all to rack up more points in the standings, as well as for morale. We’ve seen some good performances and others not so good. But this road we’ve been on for the last two games is the right one."

The Cagliari match will be a difficult one, as Inter have had problems against smaller teams: "It’s something that has caused problems for us, and we’ve struggled when teams play with all their men behind the ball. Does abundance in the positions create more competition for us as players? There has been a lot of competition in the last few weeks above all. That’s crucial for a team. No one feels they have a right to a starting spot, which is something that helps the team’s growth." And on Inter’s objectives: "In the dressing room we don’t aim for a final objective. Now all our thoughts are on Cagliari."

President Erick Thohir will be present at the San Siro on Sunday; further motivation to play well: "Certainly, we can find motivation in all kinds of places. Did the change of ownership influence the team in a negative way? We only think about playing, and those kinds of things pertain to the directors."

Aware of the commitment necessary to earn a call-up for the World Cup ("I just have to give my all, because everyone knows nothing gets handed to you in football"), the Argentine explained that to get back to top form he must also "find the peace of mind I had before, which lets me play calmly. I had lost a bit of that".

Regarding Mauro Icardi and the video that was posted on his Twitter profile in which someone can be seen tearing up a photo of Milito: "No, I don’t think it caused any problems in the dressing room. Diego’s not bothered, also because I think all this was blown out of proportion. It’s something that was done with no malice intended. Advice for Mauro? I don’t believe I have any. He turned 21 and knows what he can and can’t do. He knows how the world of football works."
