ALTOPASCIO (LU) – Nerazzurri Primavera coach Salvatore Cerrone has called on his young charges to work on cutting out mistakes and channel their energy into the championship campaign following their elimination from the Viareggio Cup.
Speaking to Inter Channel after the Under-19s were knocked out of the prestigious youth tournament in the round of 16 by Anderlecht last night, Cerrone observed: "We found ourselves up against one of the best teams in the competition but we gave them a hand and made things easier for them. I think there are certain mistakes you just shouldn't be making.
"That's why I feel a little disappointed because we started off on the right foot, we took an early lead, but then we allowed them to equalise within minutes. I think that's where you should see the maturity of a team. We need to show a meaner streak. We've worked well over the last month but I look at these lads and I see that we're still making some basic, naive mistakes.
"We'll focus our energy on the championship now and try to finish in the top two to avoid having to go through the play-offs. We'll look to get going again on Saturday minus the mistakes that are making it hard for us to close the gap with the top teams at the moment. We must all pull together and try to grow into a maturer side as quickly as possible, cutting out these schoolboy errors."
