TURIN – Walter Mazzarri offered his views to the media after Juventus v Inter.
"Do I feel more frustration or anger? I'm sorry about the way we conceded the second and third goals. It's annoying because at 1-0 we were still in the game. We hadn't given much away up until then. I knew that the fierce pressing game Juve played in the opening stages would wane in the second half. But we conceded a sloppy second goal, a loose ball that we failed to hoof clear. If we'd stayed in the game we could have got ourselves back into contention.
"We have to be extremely careful at all times. Just look at the way Juve went about the game, with their aggression. We created chances, like the one Palacio had at 3-1. We have to keep working on our mistakes. We've got a lot to learn. We're playing football and have the right tactical approach and I'm trying to help the younger lads develop. It's a year of growth, of assessments. We were missing some important players today too. We need a win so that we can turn things around.
"Tactically it was an easy match to analyse today: it was about the one-on-ones across the pitch. The stature of the players comes to the fore in games like that – and it often goes to those who are used to winning more. For example, they scored two goals from penalty-box scrambles. It came down to the individual contests, because in terms of ball possession we weren't all that inferior to them.
"Their first goal? Kovacic should have come out to close Pirlo down but when he did that we ended up having a man less in midfield, which is what happened when they scored.
"What if Samuel, Ranocchia and Zanetti were at the top of their game and had played tonight? They might have done better than those who played or they might not. We can't be sure but in any case I have to evaluate the condition of my players at the moment. Campagnaro is important. Juan Jesus, if he keeps playing regularly and with the ability he has, could become one of Europe's best defenders in a year or so's time.
