BRANCA: "ANGRY ABOUT SOME OF THE DECISIONS"

Technical director: "We're puzzled by the refereeing display. It was a penalty, but not a red. We were punished by other questionable decisions"

TURIN - Technical director Marco Branca appeared before the cameras post-match instead of Walter Mazzarri, beginning with Sky Italia: "Mazzarri hasn't come out because he's angry about some of the decisions, as we all are. Starting from the penalty through to questionable fouls etc. The refereeing display has left us scratching our heads. I think it was a good, well-fought match, but that this sort of game deserved a better performance from the officials. The penalty? Everyone has a different view of it. In the past, similar situations have been dealt with differently. In the fourth minute the whole match could have been handled differently. It was a penalty, but not a red card. We know the law is wrong, we all agree on that. There were dozens of fouls on Belfodil and a lot of other instances, like Cambiasso's challenge on Cerci, for which he was booked. Decisions that left us perplexed, particularly at the end of the match.

"We didn't start the game in the best way but we were overly punished. We need to be back competing this year, then our targets will gradually come out. We're very happy with the coach and the players. That's why we're a bit disappointed, because this sort of work deserves more attention from everyone. And I'll say it again: no one is offended when someone clarifies things. We've been around for a long time and we have the right to show we're puzzled. I'm happy for the team, but it's a shame because we came here on the back of an undeserved defeat to Roma and we could have come away with more. Will Inter now live in the shadows of conspiracy theories? Absolutely not. There are no shadows but we were right to clarify things and show we're perplexed."

The technical director went on to explain to Mediaset that "as you know, in modern football you can't afford to play with a man down against any side. We're disappointed because the sending off had a huge bearing on the result, as did other incidents. Mazzarri was angry."

Then he was asked about a potential new era with Erick Thohir: "We're happy with the team and the coach's work. I'm talking about their efforts on a daily basis, we don't look at eras, which are very long. Today there were very clear incidents. There wasn't a clear goalscoring opportunity, it wasn't dirty, and we're agreed on this. When mistakes are made, some people say things in the week building up to a game to try and have these compensated for. We don't do that and we don't want to believe in things like that. We're disappointed because a win would have been fair reward, having played the whole game with 10 men. Will there be some potential news on the club set-up? Our president is dealing with that, anything you need to know about that will come from him. Have I spoken to Thohir? No. Are Roma breaking away? I think it's too early to say they're breaking away, although when a team wins every match they can afford the odd slip-up that the other sides can't."
