MILAN - This is what Walter Mazzarri had to say to Sky Italia in his post-match interview after Inter v Roma:
"I always look beyond the result to see how we perform. We all know football matches are decided by episodes. Sometimes things don't go for you... I'm trying to improve the team and give them belief and I saw signs of that tonight too. We weren't inferior to Roma, they just made the most of the chances they had. We had chances of our own but didn't take them. That's just how it went today. They scored with almost every shot they had in the first 45 minutes. When you get a bad day like today the ball will never go in. We were all over them in the second half but it just wouldn't go in for us.
"It's disappointing because the scoreline doesn't reflect what happened on the pitch. They did well to exploit a couple of counter-attacks and hurt us early on. And once you've broken the deadlock, you can play on the counter. We had possession but that doesn't matter in football. We've been a bit unlucky of late: against Cagliari too we conceded a goal after our first mistake.
"Roma did very well defensively and stayed compact. At 3-0 the lads' heads dropped a little so I changed formation and players to try and shake them up. I don't think the problem is that we lack a real playmaker, because we're playing well. There are other ways of playing the game. It hurts to lose 3-0 after seeing how the game went. A slip-up along the way can happen but we've already played three of the big teams."
