SERIE A, INTER 0-3 ROMA

Goals from Totti (2) and Florenzi see the Nerazzurri suffer their first defeat of the season but the scoreline was not a true reflection of the game

MILAN - Inter lost their first game of the season in a Week 7 clash with table-toppers Roma at the Stadio Meazza. The Giallorossi ran out 3-0 winners thanks to a brace from Totti and one from Florenzi but the scoreline was not a true reflection of the difference between the sides. The Nerazzurri played well and had a penalty unfairly awarded against them in the first half while the goal Ranocchia had chalked off after the break might well have been given on another day.

Mazzarri stuck with three at the back but drafted in Rolando to replace the injured Campagnaro alongside Ranocchia and Juan Jesus. The midfield five was formed by Nagatomo, Taider, Cambiasso, Guarin and Pereira (coming in for Jonathan). Alvarez and Palacio started up front.

The Nerazzurri tried to assert themselves from the off but despite starting the brighter of the two sides fell behind in the 18th minute to a fabulous strike by Totti: receiving Gervinho's lay-off outside the box, the Roma skipper clipped in a curling effort which just bent inside the far post.

Guarin rattled the inside of the post with a thunderous effort in the 25th minute and moments later Alvarez also went closing to finding a leveller, only for De Sanctis to thwart him.

The referee then awarded a penalty on 39 minutes for a foul on Gervinho which took place outside the area. Totti placed the ball on the spot before smashing it home.

Five minutes later the Giallorossi had a third. Totti conjured up some magic on the edge of his own area to send Strootman scuttling away on the counter. The Dutchman made the most of the 4 v 3 situation, releasing Florenz on the right and the Italy midfielder arrowed a perfectly placed low drive into the bottom corner. 3-0 to Roma at the break.

Mazzarri replaced Pereira with Icardi during the interval and Taider with Kovacic 12 minutes into the second half.

Ranocchia had the ball in the back of the net midway through the half but the goal was ruled out for an alleged push.

A few minutes later Mazzarri made his last roll of the dice as Milito came on for Guarin.

Roma were reduced to ten men when Balzaretti picked up his second yellow in the 79th minute, prompting Garcia to haul Totti off and slot Dodò into the back line. The visitors held on until the end to claim victory in San Siro.
