MORATTI: "GREAT MOOD IN THE CAMP, QUALITY COACH"

On the club: "It's not one group taking over from another, but two groups who want to strengthen the club. Two families. That appeals to me and Thohir both"

MILAN - Massimo Moratti answered questions from journalists outside the Saras offices earlier today.

inter.it offers you the president's words in full:

Will the games against Fiorentina and Roma tell us if Inter really can challenge for the title?
"No, it's far too early for that; these are still the first few games. We're pleased with the strong start we've made. There's a great mood in the camp and the coach has proven his quality. There are players who have shown their talent and others who have shown glimpses of it. That's all very pleasing but naturally we want to keep on improving with every game."

Would you say it's been a better start than you expected? Some of the players have had a huge leap in form...
"Definitely. We can all see that. Certain players are showing how much individual talent they have, that's clear to see. They're doing their jobs very well, assuming their responsibilities and sticking to the coach's game plan. They're doing great."

I'll ask you about a player who's not at Inter any more, one you were a 'father' for before anyone else: Mario Balotelli...
"I don't really want to go into this. I'm sorry he reacted that way. He's a player capable of amazing things on the pitch, like the other day. He's fantastically skilful. It's a shame it all went up in smoke but I'm going to judge him for that."

Everyone has been saying what a hard worker Walter Mazzarri is. Last season you said one of Andrea Stramaccioni's best qualities was his approach to hard work. You even likened him to José Mourinho...
"Everyone works as best they can, then if you achieve good results you get the plaudits."

When you came back from Paris you said you didn't think you would stay on as president of the club. We've heard that Thohir is trying to convince you to remain in that role. Have you thought about it?
"There's still time to think about it. But that just shows you the friendly approach Thohir has taken and it also shows you that we're two groups who both want to strengthen the club – that's the main thing. It's not about one group taking over from another. There are two groups which, as I said, want to strengthen the club. Two families. That appeals to Thohir and it appeals to me too."

So what does your decision depend on?
"We'll see in due course."

Is Thohir excited by Inter's early-season results?
"Yes, they're happy. You have to take a pragmatic approach and wait for things to develop in their own time."

The next board meeting will be different. Can we say it's the last of its type, or the first of a new era, or is it an interim phase and there's still time to work out a few things?
"[Smiling] We'll all put on a smart suit for the occasion... We'll discuss the current problems: it will be a board meeting to clarify matters, including what direction the club is taking. That's on the agenda for sure, then what happens happens."
