MAZZARRI: "GOOD FOOTBALL DESPITE NOT BEING AT PEAK FITNESS"

Coach jokes after making his debut in the Nerazzurri dugout in San Siro: "Fortunately Milito pointed me in the right direction..."

MILAN - Walter Mazzarri spoke to Sportitalia after Inter's win over Cittadella. This is what he had to say:

"Regardless of the result it was important for us to produce a convincing display. Some of us were a bit tense at the start, there were a few first-game nerves and we haven't reached peak fitness yet but after a few minutes we found a bit of confidence and courage and played some good football.

"The sending off helped things but it's not the results we need to be looking at in this period; we just need to focus on ourselves and how we can improve. Cittadella were a bit fresher than us.

"Alvarez needs to be more consistent. We made a few too many mistakes at the start but Ricky is great player, he just has to do more with his talent."

Finally, Mazzarri was asked to comment on Inter's transfer dealings and what it was like to sit on the Nerazzurri bench at the Meazza: "I never talk about transfer business. I've been coaching in Serie A for 10 years and I've been to San Siro lots of times but my real debut here was taking my place in the right dugout. Milito had to point me in the right direction..."
