ATHENS – Javier Zanetti has made it on board the Inter Cruise and, needless to say, the passengers could not be more thrilled. Some had even gone so far as to organise a welcome by unfurling Nerazzurri flags while the ship was still underway.
The first embrace in Athens came from Lampros Choutos, who met the captain at the airport. Choutos was at Inter for six months in the 2004/05 season, then returned in 2006/07. He saw action on the pitch only three times but amazingly won three trophies: the Coppa Italia, the Italian Super Cup and the Scudetto. The Greek forward never truly broke through in Italian football, but all his team-mates remember him fondly.
Zanetti was then greeted by the president of the Inter Club of Athens and Bedy Moratti who, after having lunch near the Acropolis with other club members, awaited Pupi outside the ship. Now Zanetti looks forward to greeting his fans, who are, as always, one of the things he holds most important.
