MILAN - The 'Premio Gemelli' awards ceremony was taking place at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, with prizes handed out to the best graduates of 2011. The theme was 'fear and adventure'.
Renowned writer Beppe Severgnini was giving a speech at the event when Francesco Toldo made an unexpected entrance - a surprise organised by the Milanese university for Severgnini, a diehard Nerazzurri fan. It was also the cue for an entertaining impromptu show between the two.
The basic idea is that fear and adventure are two sides of the same coin. Youngsters are encouraged to dare, and not remain prisoners of their own potential. Football is a perfect example of that. A dream for so many, it really is an adventure. And when you set foot on the pitch, as Toldo was quick to admit, the fear sends you a signal. But, if you know what to do with it, you can convert it into concentration.
Francesco Toldo has had his fair share of adventures and now, as an Inter Campus ambassador, he's involved in another.
"It's an immensely satisfying adventure. Giving joy to children who live in areas where fear prevails shows you it's not hard to dream of a better world – you just need the courage to do it."
