STANKOVIC: "THE DOOR IS OPEN BUT..."

Midfielder spoke to Inter Channel from Serbia about making his international comeback

MILAN - As soon as this morning's training session at the Centro Sportivo Angelo Moratti finished, Dejan Stankovic set off for Serbia.

He spoke to Inter Channel on the phone during this evening's edition of Internews and explained: "I held a press conference today for Serbian journalists. It had been a year since I last spoke to them and today was an opportunity to have a chat about things. They were really happy to see me back in Serbia and they asked about the possibility of me playing for the national team again. I've left the door open but we'll have to see. I need to get properly fit again first, play a few games for Inter and then we can see."

Asked specifically about Serbia's forthcoming World Cup qualifier against Croatia, Deki replied: "It's still 40 days away [22 March 2013]. It's going to take a bit of time, a bit of work, and then we'll see. The door has been left open for me to return and it's up to me to decide. As I said, if I'm to play for Serbia again I must be 100% fit."
