SIENA – Inter were defeated 3-1 by Siena in the Week 23 match of 2012/13 Serie A season, played this afternoon at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.
After a quarter of an hour Guarin came within a hair of finding the net with a shot from distance that Pegolo blocked for a corner. Three minutes later Rosina followed his lead but Handanovic denied him with a quality save. However, the Tuscan team was the one to open the scoring: Rubin’s run down the flank was followed by a cross that Emeghara pushed into the goal from a position that seemed suspiciously offside. Only a minute passed before Kuzmanovic’s long pass found Cassano, whose curling shot drew Inter level. But the momentum soon turned back the other way when Sestu’s stunning shot from the edge of the box put the home team back in front.
The second half began badly for the Nerazzurri when Chivu brought down Emeghara in the box on 55 minutes. The Romanian was given his marching orders before Rosina converted from the spot. Cassano hit the crossbar in the 58th minute but Inter were unable to get on the score sheet again. The match ended at 3-1, leaving the Nerazzurri with 40 points in the standings.
