AWAITING PRIMA SERATA: HANDANOVIC AND WORK

"It's important to take something from each coach and understand what's needed to stay in form"

APPIANO GENTILE – The discussion turned to the atmosphere at Inter as Samir Handanovic continued on "Prima Serata", which will air later on Inter Channel (channel 232 on Sky Sport Italia).

The Nerazzurri goalkeeper explained: "Everything’s relaxed. I didn’t have any particular difficulties fitting in here. My team-mates are very helpful, so getting adjusted went very smoothly. I'm getting to know the group. A goalkeeper has to understand the characteristics of his team-mates, to get on well with them and know what to expect during a game."

Handanovic’s emotions are not outwardly seen on his face, however: "It’s true, I don’t show much emotion. But I can say that 7 or 8 years ago I felt quite moved when I arrived in Italy and played against Inter at the Meazza."

"Batman" is the nickname given by Roberto Scarpini to Samir Handanovic, who smiled and stated: "You can call me whatever you want. I like it, but I still need to do more in order to become like him."

A phone call with Lello Senatore, Handanovic’s goalkeeping coach from his days at Udinese, sends Inter’s number one on a trip back in time: "We arrived together in Udine and we came up there together, me as a keeper and him as a coach. It’s particularly satisfying when you see the improvements. It’s true that you always have to keep working, but with experience you start to understand what’s needed to stay in form and this is what you talk about with your coach. To tell you the truth, there are two people I learned this philosophy from: Senatore and Bonaiuti. It’s important to take something from each coach because people who have been around longer than you have seen a lot and know more. At the same time it’s true that we also give something to them, we have different characteristics because we’re different people."
