SAN LAZZARO DI SAVENA - Daniele Bernazzani's Under-19s claimed a well-deserved victory away to Bologna this afternoon to keep up the heat on Group B leaders Atalanta in the Primavera championship.
The Week
13 fixture came in the middle of a crucial period for the Nerazzurri
youngsters, sandwiched between last Wednesday's Coppa Italia victory
over Modena and their NextGen encounter against Rosenborg on Tuesday, but they produced
a top performance to overcome a form team.
After a slow start, Benassi had the chance to put Inter ahead in the 28th minute when Acampora went down in the box under a clumsy challenge from Ferrari. The midfielder, who recently made his senior Nerazzurri debut against Rubin Kazan, confidently fired his spot kick into the top corner. Bernazzani's lads stepped up a gear after the interval and doubled the lead in the 57th minute from another penalty, won by Bocar. This time Garritano took it but the result was the same: Malagoli beaten. Two minutes later Bocar got himself on the score sheet with a brilliantly taken third. The talented Portuguese forward collected an inch-perfect pass from Garritano and shielded the ball well before shaking off his man and smartly poking past the Bologna custodian. Veratti netted a consolation goal for the hosts from the spot in the 66th minute but Inter maintained the upper hand and might have added a fourth were it not for some late heroics by Malagoli.
Three more points means the Nerazzurri Under-19s remain in second place, six points behind Atalanta but with a game in hand (at home to Cittadella) and a trip to Bergamo to follow right after the Christmas break. However, for the time being all the focus is on Tuesday, when Bernazzani's young charges will attempt to seal their place in the NextGen knock-out stage with a win over Rosenborg. The game kicks off at the Centro Sportivo Giacinto Facchetti at 14:30.
