PIATRA NEAMT - Inter have come away with a 2-0 victory in the first of their two meetings with Vaslui, in the UEFA Europa League play-offs. Andrea Stramaccioni spoke about the game, and other things beside, in his post-match press conference.
"It was an important win but the experience of the previous round against Hajduk Split has taught us that you can't treat any game lightly in international competitions. That's why we're very focused on the return leg."
The coach's pre-match views on opponents Vaslui were confirmed this evening with Stramaccioni saying: "They proved to be tough opponents and that's why I don't think we're already through. In a week's time we'll make sure we're ready. We were very focused tonight, given the conditions. We were very attacking, then we lost Mudingayi in the first few minutes, but I saw an aggressive streak in our play at times which augurs well. What I enjoyed was seeing Inter attack and defend as a unit. This is progress."
It was a special occasion for Javier Zanetti this evening as he celebrated his 800th appearance for the Nerazzurri: "I already said yesterday what I think of him, I can't say any more. Basically he's one of a kind and we want to keep hold of him."
When asked about Antonio Cassano, Stramaccioni explained that: "A new Inter side is being created with a very clear vision. The president, coach and directors all share that. We've only brought in players who can help this project."
Stramaccioni then spoke to Inter Channel about the transfer market and he wanted to say "a big thank you to Marco Branca and Piero Ausilio. The technical director has been in Portugal for the last 48 hours and has come back with the player we wanted, Alvaro Pereira. I thank them because they, along with the president, have granted my wishes."
