APPIANO GENTILE – Last Sunday against Genoa a half hour was all that was needed for Fredy Guarin to have his say on the pitch on the day of his debut with Inter. Today the Colombian had his say in front of cameras and journalists' notebooks at a press conference, explaining just how great his desire to come to Inter was.
"I had held this dream for a long time, because Inter is truly a dream for me, and one that I carried wde in January but rather much earlier and Ivan Cordoba knows this very well. I had always expressed this desire to him, and the things he told me, as well as his presence, also helped my desire to grow even more. Now I'm finally happy to wear this shirt and to have made my debut," said Guarin.
Technical director Marco Branca, who was next to the player during the conference along with Piero Ausilio, made a point of emphasising that if "Guarin had dreamt of Inter for two years, we were watching him, even before that. Then there was this opportunity to sign him in January, for which I thank the president of Porto, Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa, who understood Fredy's desire to come to Inter. He's definitively recovered from his injury with us and we're glad to have him as a future part of the team. He's fitting in very well," said Branca, who then postponed responding to other questions on the transfer market that did not deal with Guarin ("Balotelli? I think there will be time to talk about Mario and other things in two months").
Guarin picked up an injury with the Colombian national team in November, which he then reaggravated during his course of recovery at Porto. In January, despite the injury, Inter strongly wanted the player and then formalised his arrival on the last day of the month. Guarin thought back to that moment and could only smile happily: "The fact that a great club like Inter sought me, despite the fact that I was injured, was an even greater motivation for me. I will repay the trust that they have shown in me. You'll see. Because for me, Inter is a dream. One day I began thinking about it. It was a dream that I harboured, and then like in a fairy tale it came true. I'm excited to be able to be here and wear the shirt of such an important club. As someone who had a difficult childhood, this is truly a dream. I'm here with the motivation to play for this club for a long time."
