MILAN - After Inter v Genoa, technical director Marco Branca spoke to Inter Channel. From his words one could sense the satisfaction with the debut of Andrea Stramaccioni but also the disappointment regarding certain refereeing decisions, with three penalties that were whistled against Inter.
"There's satisfaction with the general attitude of the team, which was more assertive, eager, almost arrogant; I'm talking about the kind of healthy arrogance that goes with expecting to make some lovely play that does damage to the opponent. In this match, however, there are other things to be pointed out, because it's not worth complaining only when you lose or draw, and there was thoughtlessness on the part of the referee in his decisions. Regarding the penalty called against Zanetti, you have to take into account the distance and trajectory of the ball; Javier was watching the trajectory of the ball, and in my opinion that was no penalty. The one with Lucio was absolutely not a penalty, but an extended leg on the part of Sculli. Two penalties given with much thoughtlessness. Two penalties like that had no business being called in a game like that against a team like that. I thought it was a false note to so quickly and thoughtlessly award those penalties against us."
The technical director then went on to talk about Stramaccioni and the future: "He's introduced himself. We're pleased because he's one of our coaches. The fans and the team have embraced our idea. Regarding the future the president was clear. We've been working for some time now for our future and it will be the right mix. At Manchester United, who could go 5 points clear of Man City, the best are always Giggs and Scholes and no one there speaks of age and grey hair. Everyone has been writing them off for quite a while now, but you see that it makes no sense. I have confidence in our players, who have always shown great commitment and very strong character."
