MILAN - Inter defender Marco Materazzi dished out the prizes at the end of a football tournament involving 18 teams and over 250 players at the Milano Opera prison.
Materazzi spent time chatting with some of the inmates after the awards ceremony. He also posed for photos and signed autographs.
"Everyone deserves a second chance in life, even the less fortunate ones," commented Materazzi. "I always participate very willingly in these meetings. They transmit me a lot, certainly a lot more than I can give them."
When leaving the prison Materazzi, who answered a host of questions on sport and football, saluted the inmates saying: "I feel close to you."
