Beretta put Italy in front in the 9th minute after having a penalty saved by Bardi. Palodichuk equalised for the Americans six minutes after half time with Di Iemmello sealing victory for Italy in the 56th.
Inter's Felice Natalino and Marco Ezio Fossati played the whole ninety minutes while Lorenzo Crisetig was substituted in the 60th. Simone Dell'Agnello was unused by Italy coach Pasquale Salerno.
Italy face Germany or Switzerland in the quarter-finals on 8 November.
