MILAN - Along with Michel Platini, Olympic gold medallist Stefano Baldini and other Italian athletes who won medals in Athens, Nerazzurri striker Adriano was presented with a prestigious Torretta award in Milan last night.
After receiving the award, Adriano relived the ninety minutes against Juventus. He said: "The situation was difficult when it was 2-0, but we are a team that never gives up and we showed that. Vieri came on and scored a fantastic goal, then we managed to equalise. It's an important result for us when you consider how the match was going. Let's not think about Juventus any longer. We have drawn a lot of matches and they're further ahead in the table than us. We're aware of our strength and potential to do well, both in the championship and the Champions League."
The Torretta awards organising committee president Bruno Pizzul (a famous football commentator in Italy) interviewed the Brazilian about his opinion of European football. "Italian football isn't easy, but it's very stimulating and fascinating to test yourself in a championship like the Serie A," said Adriano. "Like every good Brazilian, I always try to bring joy to the team. For me football is joy and I always play with a smile."
Pizzul also asked Adriano if he planned to ask Mancini to play some background music during training sessions. "It's a nice idea. I'll tell him about it..." replied the Brazilian.
